Rescue Global Deploys to the Caribbean for Hurricane Season 2018

News Post date September 11, 2018

Hurricanes Irma and Maria were of unprecedented scale and left catastrophic damage in their wake in 2017, including across several British Overseas Territories (OTs). Since our three month response operation, we have been working tirelessly to ensure better regional preparedness through a strong network of partnerships in the Caribbean, with key local and international government organisations at the fore.

Now, amidst the peak of the 2018 hurricane season, RG have deployed to the Caribbean once more to support government and humanitarian agencies in positioning their pre-emptive humanitarian and disaster response capabilities across the region. We continue to support local primacy and leadership in nation-led preparedness and response efforts, and also recognise the robust preparedness efforts and infrastructural resilience bolstered by the UK Government in light of last year’s devastation, following significant investment in emergency aid and reparations. With UK humanitarian and military assets on standby to respond, the RG deployed team are positioned to facilitate and enable government assessment and command teams, and are on hand to support and advise where required across a range of cross sector actor response and recovery operations.

The RG team at HQ meanwhile, is continuing to maintain high levels of readiness and is monitoring hourly weather forecasts for the region very carefully.
